An apparent "Nelson's" Gull
Provincetown, Massachusetts - 2 November 2008
created by Blair Nikula
This first-winter (or is it molting into 2nd-winter?) gull was among a large aggregation of gulls at Herring Cove in Provincetown on 2 November 2008. It appears to be a "Nelson's" Gull (i.e., Glaucous X Herring gull hybrid), but I would welcome any contrary opinions. It was intermediate in size between a Herring Gull and a Great Black-backed Gull. Images were taken with a Canon 40D and Canon 100-400mm IS lens.
