The Great White Auk

First Encounter Beach, Eastham, Massachusetts - 22 November 2010

created by Blair Nikula

The following images are of an almost completely white Razorbill seen flying by First Encounter Beach in Eastham - one of hundreds of Razorbills seen in little over a half hour that morning. The bird was quite distant (1/4 mile?) and these images are heavily cropped, thus the poor quality. The bird appeared to be all white, except for some duskiness on the leading edge of the underwing. Both the bill and the feet/legs were distinctly pinkish. A very striking bird!

All images were taken with a Canon 7D and Canon 100-400mm IS lens and are copyright 2010 by Blair Nikula.
